Those are decent sounding amps, some of teh guys over at NNETG have obtained and fixed these up, with good results.

Back in the May 2008 NEAR-fest hamfest), I picked up a Knight 928 (which is pretty much equivalent to the Lafayette for $80, and it played very nicely, and all the tubes were originals, and the unit was in very good condition, no dust or rust problems. A good ST35 still sounds better, overall...

Didn't think you could get 25W out of a pair of 7189s. If 7189s get up to 400V on their anode, and 6P14P-EV can take 500, can you get more power out of a 6P14P-EV?

The more volts you can put on the plate, the more power you'll be able to extract. Keep an eye on the screen voltages - pentode mode with a relatively low screen voltage (350V or less) is probably the safest bet. Ultralinear or triode strapped probably won't work. As the plate voltage goes up, you will probably need to increase the Z of the output transformer.
