Postby JimB » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:01 pm

it looks like this is backordered for awhile- does anyone know of a source other than Mouser?
Thanks

The best thing to do is buy a 12 position and cut the last
two sections off. I use a Dremel tool and it takes a few
seconds, but a coping saw or a hacksaw would work just
as well. Hit the cut end with a file or some sandpaper
and you can't tell it was cut.

Jim,

You could also just solder the wires directly to the board. I know that reduces the ease of disconnecting the board from the rest of the amp, but since I built my ST-35 nearly 4 years ago I've never had the board out of it. Not as elegant, or pretty, but it would work if you can't get the part.

Thanks Tom and Ed, I had considered staking some terminals or soldering directly to the board, but I had not thought of "surgery" on a 12 position strip. What about tube sockets? Any favorites?

Jim -

I built maybe six ST-35's and one had the staked terminals
pre-installed when I bought it (an eBay deal)
They are easy enough to connect to, but if you ever need
to pull the board to work on it, it would be tough.

I usually buy the tube sockets from Triode or Angela
or whoever I am buying parts from. They seem to all
be made at the same plant in China.

Have fun with the project !

Sal used to have a boatload of 9 pin sockets for sale, and you can't beat his price:

I've bought sockets from tubedepot.com a few times. Their shipping is reasonably low, they ship really quick, and they have a decent selection.
