Dynaco Stereo 80 and Stereo 160 Vacuum Tube Power Amps

Postby Arn » Thu Jan 22, 2009 7:15 am

Hello all,

I designed the printed circuit boards for the Dynaco Stereo 80
and Stereo 160 back in 1993 for Dynaco when owned by Panor Corp.
I am now trying to find one of these "old" tube amplifiers.
Got one or know where I can find one?
Thanks! - Arn Roatcap -

Hello Arn, when you mention you're trying to find "these old tube amplifiers", you meant Dynaco varieties? I am sure there is a plethora of sources for original ST-35, ST-70, MKIIs, MKIIIs, and MKIVs. These sources range anywhere from local flee markets, thrift stores, antique stores, estate sales, and garage sales to electronic flee markets such as CL, eBay, Audiogon, discussion forums, etc. You're sure to find some on eBay and Audiogon. The average going price for ST-70 on eBay is about $300 + shipping.

You can also build these brand new. Parts are available from Triode Electronics and Dynakitparts. There will be a plenty of helping hands here if you are this route, even though you probably won't need it.

If you meant "these old amps" as any kind of tube amps, they are infested everywhere. eBay is usually a good place to start for me.

Craigslist is pretty good in the bay area. Well, it originated from SF, right? I'd look there first.

He (Arn) means the ones that he designed for Panor - not the orignal Philadelphia made, Hafler owned Dynaco amps.

Those may be relatively rare... The best bet is to ping e-bay and the usual audio sites for these models. I have never seen either the 80 or the 160 "in the flesh". What was the tube "line-up" for these amps?

THis may be an interesting project to re-create these designs, if you have any of the original PCB design information available.

Not to be confused with those awful Dynaco solid state ST80s or SQA80s...
