ST-35 w/ 5AR4

Postby muschy » Sat May 31, 2008 10:19 am

Hi all:

I'm working on a chassis for an ST-35 with the 5AR4 mod, but was wondering how critical the placement of the rectifier is on the chassis in relation to all the other components. Any tips or things I should know before starting the metalwork?

hey, welcome to diytube. we're chill here. anyway keep the rectifier away from the small signal tubes, but that's about it. other thumb rules about keeping the small tubes away from the power transformer, and keeping the power transformer lams at a right angle to top-mounted chokes and OPT's apply. looking forward to some pics once you're done :)

Hey, thanks for the advice. I've already finished one stock ST-35, and I love it, I have it running a set of B&W DM303's that are a couple years old, and it sounds great. I wanted to try my hand at a tube rectified one.

I usually try to place the rectifier tube close to the PT. This will help you keep the two AC wires (filament and HT taps) from the PT away from everything else.
