anyone tried a 12av7 in place of the 12au7?? are there any problems with using it? i tried it last night. WOW! it really brightened up the image.
i used an RCA tube found in my pile of tubes

The 12AV7 is the street version of the 5965 computer tube that some folks swear by. It has roughly twice the gain as the AU7, and draws around twice the plate current. A little tweaking of the cathode and plate resistors could make it sound even better.
IMNSHO, almost anything will sound better than a 12AU7.
