Any other Transformer options.....

Postby ejfud » Sat Mar 06, 2004 10:45 pm

....other than Hammond, Magnequest or old Dynaco's. I've been lurking for a while and finally took the plunge and bought a PCB.

I thought I read a post that someone on this board was producing some trannies bought can't find the post.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Gary :D

Hi All,

Gary, that might be me. I developed and put into limited production an amplifier using 6BQ5s. The output transformer is based on the Z-565, but has more laminations and is wound for 4 and 8 ohms. When I found this website, I decided that I'd offer the transformers to anyone interested; don't think I'm gonna be dealing with a lot of corporate competition here!

There's a thread labelled DIY35/TAL 1773 Comparisons in which I'm going to be comparing Shannon's stock design with my admittedly expensive counterpart. Then we'll start mixing trannies, both power and output, and just have a good old time. Stay tuned.

Gary,
Actually our options could be opening up in the next few months. We are quite fortunate to have so many options.

Any other info you'd like to share with the rest of the class? I'm not sure I can last that long either.

Thanks guys.

If you can't wait, by all means grab the Hammonds or Magnequests - you won't be disappointed. Both are excellent values. There are even lower priced Hammond models that can be had for peanuts. While for those wishing to give their amp a sonic edge with designer caps, I would suggest the money would be spent better on upgrading to the MQs.

You'll definately going to have to wait for them. I've been waiting 7+ weeks.
