Chassis Layout Thoughts

Postby SteveH » Tue Mar 27, 2007 3:22 pm

All,
I am at the point where I am ready to start drilling holes in my enclosure, and have been having some second thoughts on the typical arrangement.
First of all, I have been toying of the idea of having the power xfrmr off to one side, with the OPT's on the other. This would allow me to have segregation between power cord, inputs and outputs. Take a look @ the quick and dirty drawing.
Another option is perhaps moving the triode/UL switch to the front of the panel. I know that this would be a bad place for hum introduction - so that may happen to keep the leads as short as possible.
I suppose the third option is to go status-quo. I guess my only worry with this layout is where to mount the inputs logically ? I will be using shielded cable and all; but after the amount of time I spent on this enclosure, I do not (read: will not) drill more holes than need be to correct hindsight issues.

Thanks !

Hi Steve ...

One thing I don't like about the ST-35's is that they are
back end heavy. If you could balance that out, it would
be nice. The only thing you'll run into putting the outputs
on the same side is that the leads won't be long enough,
and since there are 5 of them, it's a lot of extra work
extending them. The other thing I'll mention is that the
power transformer does run pretty warm, so keeping it
away from everything like your pic is a good idea.

You can alway go totally unconventional and put the
PC board in sideways.
