Need help on my ST35

for the DIY ST35, the Dynakit and every other PP EL84

I'll answer by number ...

1 - those are the unused 5 volt and centertaps of the filament windings,
capping them is OK

Image

2 - I would check the values of all of the resistors in that circuit, it
seems like some value is wrong - like R43, R44, R45 and R46 is
10K instead of 10 ohms

3 - Double check your wiring to the pots, you should have the ground
conductors at the switch end all connected together (with a ring of
wire so to speak) and that needs to go to the ground end of the
pots. You should try the amp with a simple "no pot' input and
see what you get.

What you didn't mention is this ... does the amp bias up properly,
since your question # 2 makes it sound like the bias is not right.

Glad you cured the hum.

R30 and R31 set the negative feedback, not bias.

My question is when you set the bias at the test points,
does it adjust to .35 volts ? If the amp sounds good,
and the bias is right, maybe it's just a misunderstanding
of where to measure the resistance.

Shannon has a sweet 6B4G Single Ended Triode amp
on the horizon --- stay tuned !

OK cool - I typed the previous reply while you were finding the resistors !
Let us know how is sounds when you change them out.

By the way - the 10 ohm resistors are available at Radio Shack.

Welcome Speedo!

Heathkit AA151 transformers work VERY well in the ST35 also. Just a couple of changes to the feedback caps.

My first '35 just passed it's third trouble free year!

Randy - Glad you got it going ! The guys on here are always
happy to help. Did you adjust the bias with a voltmeter to .35 volts
on the test points with the input volume down or jacks shorted
and speakers connected ? You need to do that to get the bias
perfect. The 400 ohm setting is just to get started so you
start out in the ballpark.

My first DIYTube ST-35 has Hammonds in it, and sounds great,
I built it early in 2002.

Yep - I'm in NJ, near Atalntic City. I'm a weekend DJ on
New Jersey 101.5, Sunday 3 to 7, maybe you heard me before.
