16 ohm taps

Postby JG » Thu Jan 08, 2004 3:47 am

Hi,

I don't need these taps. I'll be hooking up the 8 ohm taps to my binding posts. Should I wire up the primary side of the transformers to J3 & J4 if I'm not using the output? I guess I could just use some grommets and isolated these wires.

Thanks,
JG

If you're using output transformers which have 8 and 16 ohm taps (like the Z-565 or equivalent), the best approach is to run ground (0, black wire) and 8 ohms to the binding posts, then run the 16 ohm tap to the NFB
connection on the terminal blocks (and 0/Ground to its terminal block position). With thiis setup, the NFB pots can be pre-set to 28.3K before connecting the 16 ohm wire.

For the Hammond 1650E/F s, follow the wiring for 8 ohms, and bring the 8 ohms to the output binding posts and to the NFB position, preset the NFB pots to 19.2K first.
4 Ohms can also be brought out to the BPs if you want.
